Slim Straight Burnisher With Handle

Burnishers are an incredibly versatile tool that can be used for numerous techniques.

It is used for creating shine, contrast to matte finishes by rubbing firmly over metal highlighting the edges. This works especially well for pierced work and to work harden metal wire, brooch pins or earing hooks.

Another main job of a burnisher is to brighten and polish the edges of a collet or channel after stones have been set.

In engraving, a burnisher is used to burnish over slips of the graver by pushing a small amount of metal into the Scratch, so disguising the error.

A tapered tool, round in cross-section, made from a hard highly polished metal and firmly set into a wooden handle.

The tool should be kept lubricated and well oiled so it can work to its full potential. The tool should be kept polished (otherwise the finish will be impaired).
