24ct yellow gold foil, a thicker form of traditional gold leaf, is designed for enamel work and decorative surfaces. Ideal for gilding, enamelling, and other decorative effects, it creates a shimmering background with transparent enamels or a luxurious finishing touch over opaque enamel. Perfect for adding elegant highlights and enhancing both transparent and opaque enamel designs.

How to use it step by step:

• Apply a base coat of enamel flux (colourless transparent enamel) or your chosen enamel colour to the piece.
• Attach the gold leaf to the pre-fired enamel layer using an adhesive or gum, such as Klyr-Fire Gum Solution (860 126), before re-firing at the same temperature as the base layer. This ensures the gold leaf bonds to the base.
• If the gold leaf appears dark, apply and fire an additional layer of transparent enamel to enhance the gold colour.
• You can continue applying layers of transparent enamel over the gold leaf as desired.

This sheet of 24ct gold leaf measures 100mm x 100mm (4″ x 4″) and is approximately 0.003 microns thick.

It is supplied between two sheets of waxed paper, making it easier to handle and apply.

Please note: Although called gold foil, it is not thick enough for Keum-Boo techniques.

Gold foil and gold leaf are both made of high-purity gold but differ mainly in thickness and use. Gold leaf is extremely thin and delicate, ideal for gilding, artwork, and enamelling where it’s applied as a decorative surface. Gold foil, on the other hand, is thicker and more durable, making it suitable for metalworking techniques like Keum-Boo, where it’s fused onto silver using heat and pressure.
