Pam East’s Denamel, Non-toxic Enamel Eraser, 170g/6oz

Description

Pam East’s DeNamel Enamel Eraser is a non-toxic solution for removing fired enamel – allowing you to save intricate metalwork which may previously have to be scrapped and save money spent on replacement silver!

Instructions for use

• Mix a spoonful of DeNamel powder with a few drops of water until it has the texture and appearance of mixed icing sugar
• Apply a thick layer of the solution all over one side of your enamelled piece
• Fire at 790°C (1,450°F) for 2 minutes in a pre-heated kiln. It is advisable to use ceramic fibreboard, a kiln shelf or mica sheet to avoid any enamel melting onto the base of your kiln. Be sure to wear eye protection! The solution will blacken and smoke in the kiln.
• Remove the enamel piece from the kiln and place it in a bucket of cold water to quench immediately. Make sure that your eye protection is still in place during this process. You will hear a loud popping or cracking sound, which is normal and is the sound of the enamel being removed from the metal.
• If the enamel is very thick, the process may need to be repeated.
• After removing all the enamel, use a wire brush to remove any residue. Repeat the process on the other side of the piece if needed, and then re-fire the metal without any enamel.
• For fine silver, re-fire at 871°C (1,600°F) for 10 minutes.
• After this, your metal is ready to be cleaned and enamelled as normal.
• Do not use this product on pieces larger than 3 inches in width.
• DeNamel cannot selectively remove parts of enamel. The entire enamelled surface must be removed.
