The Bench Essentials Charcoal Block by Cooksongold is a traditional jeweller’s soldering surface, valued for its natural heat-reflective properties and ability to support efficient, controlled soldering. Particularly suited for smaller pieces and minor repairs, the charcoal block reflects and retains heat, helping metal reach soldering temperature quickly while reducing torch time and energy use.

As the charcoal is heated from approximately 750°C, it begins to slowly burn a characteristic that enhances soldering performance. During this process, the charcoal helps absorb oxygen around the workpiece, creating a more favourable environment for clean solder flow and reducing oxidation on the metal surface.

The block can also be easily carved, allowing jewellers to create small recesses or custom shapes for melting metal or stabilising components during fabrication. This adaptability makes it a versatile and essential bench accessory for both traditional and modern jewellery making techniques.
