The 518 series of handpieces come in 3 different stroke strengths:

• 518C: is the most powerful
• 518SP: is a medium strength ()
• 518USP: is the slowest strength (runs at 2,000 -20,000rpm)

However, you can also reduce these strokes further by adding this Reduction Gear Nano – 400, which reduces speed by 1/4 to 500 – 3,125 rpm.

This means if you were to add this to your 518 handpiece it would become exactly the same as a 528 series ( which have this reducer built in) with a much slower stroke, creating a hit by hit motion, easier to use when working on more delicate pieces.

You can however also add the reducer to the 528 so slow it down even further.

Having this as an added extra also means that should it need to be replaced, you will not need to replace the whole handpiece.
